How To Use The RC Flight Manager

Introduction

I’ve (we) always wanted to share the ability to log flights for a long time. I don’t know many pilots that do it but I think it’s a good way to gauge your flight experience and track the air time on your helicopters. Plus you can now definitivly say how many crashes flights and air time you have!

We at RCFM have set this up for you. We use it for every flight!

Overview

The RC Flight Manager (RCFM) allows you to track your helicopters, their flight time, their battery usage (if they’re electric) and where you fly.

To get the most out of the RC Flight Manager you’ll need to enter your helicopters, flight locations and batteries. Then you can enter your flight logs.

At a minimum you’ll need to enter your helicopters. This is the least amount of information needed to create a flight log.

Getting Started

After you’ve registered and logged in you’ll need to setup your helicopters. Find the main My Flight Manager menu on the right of the screen and choose Add Aircraft.

Add Aircraft

The only thing you need to fill out is the Aircraft Name.

It would be nice if you can fill out as much as possible so that down the road we can report on how many pilots have helicopters with specific attributes.

When you’re done hit Submit. The form will disappear and you can add another helicopter or go on to adding locations and batteries.

My Aircraft

This option will give you a list of all of your helicopters.

From here you can Edit them and see some basic stats.

Choosing Edit will open the Edit form just like the Add form.

Why can't I delete a helicopter?

For now delete is disabled because if you have existing logs for the helicopter they would be abandoned in the system. In the future you may be able to delete them along with all of their logs.

Add A Location

To add a location/flying field choose Add A Location from the menu on the right.

You only need to add the name of the field or however you wish to refer to it.

It would be nice if you can add the Postal Code and Country Codes. This will help us report on where pilots are flying.

When you’re done hit submit and the form will close.

My Locations

This option will let you see a listing of all the locations you have along with some other statistics. You can Edit them from this listing.

Why can't I delete a location?

For now delete is disabled because if you have existing logs that refer to a location all of your log entries would no longer have a location.

Add A Battery

Choose Add A Battery from the menu on the right.

The name can be anything you want that will help you identify the battery in the Flight Log drop down box of your batteries.

It would be nice if you can fill in the other items to match your battery so we can report later on what styles and size of batteries are being used.

My Batteries

This option lists all of your batteries and some other statistics. You can edit each battery from here.

The RC Flight Log

Now for the real purpose of RCFM! The Flight Log!

Now that you have all the pre-requisites for the Flight Log let’s add an entry.

Choose Add Flight to Log from the menu on the right.

Fill in everything you want and hit save. The more information you can provide the more useful each log entry is. You'll notice after a few logs are entered you can get more usefull information from each of the lists (like the My Aircraft area will tell you the number of flights and flight time for each aircraft).

If this flight resulted in a crash you can indicate this on the Crash Report tab. This tab is optional but helpful if you want to keep track of your crashes.

When you’re done hit Submit and the form will disappear.

My Flight Log

This option lists all of your flights and their details. You can edit and delete them from here if needed.

Thats it! The more info you provide the more usefull the system will be. Please let me know if you have questions or suggestions!

Check back often as we're always adding features!
